The Perils of Improper Storage

July 5

The lesson of the day today was a frustratingly messy one. Someone had improperly stored a few bottles containing Sodium Hydroxide, and shoved the box into a rarely used corner of the lab. As I was cleaning up and organizing today, I found this box, and the mess inside. It was cool to see how the bottles had broken down and the samples inside had crystallized, but it was much less fun to clean up the mess. From now on, there will be an increased initiative to clean up the lab more frequently, and to refresh training for everyone on the proper storage of all the samples we process in the labs.

This afternoon I took to properly thoroughly cleaning the IC lab, rather than just organizing. Now we have lots of bench space, and no rogue samples hiding away in corners waiting to be a mess for someone else to clean up.
