Day Two - June 7

Ion Chromatography is an analysis method that determines the concentration of specific ions present in a liquid sample by separating ionic and polar components as the liquid is pushed through a charged column within the instrument.
This morning I met RC, who is in charge of the Ion-Chromatography Lab. Before going into the lab, I had to read another SOP. This one was more exciting than the ones yesterday, since it was actually about a new process that I was about to learn. RC was so welcoming and taught me everything I need to know about the IC instrument, which is pictured above.
Most of my day was spent just learning from RC and picking up on how I can be useful in the IC lab. I started with practicing some sample prep by doing a lot of dilutions. From what I understand so far, most samples are too concentrated to be run neat through the instrument, so they need diluting before being run.
I'm looking forward to learning more about IC in the coming weeks!
